There is always a tense moment when you get asked to shoot an outdoor editorial for publication, even more so when the month is November, as being based in the United Kingdom we are usually guaranteed rain. But… to our luck and surprise… on the day in question it looked like it could have been an August in Los Angeles. The sun had really come out to play. It wasn’t exactly warm, but it was definitely bright.
It was also the first commissioned shoot since I had bought my new Pixapro Powercore Location head. Bought for the fact it throws out 600w’s of power for 500 flashes per battery charge… which is handy, especially as the Profoto B2’s at only a third of the watts output, was struggling to take 200 shots before dying. Sometimes the value options are more versatile in this industry. Don’t get me wrong of course, I love profoto to death, it’s just when you are travelling with studio sized lighting on London Public transport, every gram and inch saved to carry is crucial.
However we didn’t stay outdoors all day, and after our stroll around Belgravia, we headed to an american diner on Kensington High Street called Roadster California for the hero shots. The restaurant was incredibly designed, and their burgers and sweet potato fries were awesome.
Here is the finished editorial, You can always find more of my published work on my tearsheet section, and make sure to bag yourself a copy of this in print if you see it in the store, as images always look better on a page.
